Iċ-Chairman ta’ Festivals Malta, Aaron Zahra stqarr “Celebrating the Past, Creating the Future hija t-tema li għażilna biex infakkru il-ħames snin anniversarju tagħna. Ħames snin li mhux dejjem kienu ward u żahar. Il-pandemija ppreżentatilna ħafna ostakli u minħabba f’hekk ma stajniex nagħmlu dak li kien pjanat, u ma stajniex nipproduċu avvenimenti tal-massa għal raġunijiet ovvji. Madankollu, xorta waħda ħassejna l-ħtieġa li nkunu ta’ servizz għall-poplu, u t-tim ħabrieki tagħna baqa’ għaddej b’ideat innovattivi u proġetti ġodda. Illum, niċċelebraw il-passat tagħna bl-ikbar kburija, u b’ottimiżmu qawwi nħarsu ’l quddiem lejn il-futur li se noħolqu flimkien.”

Il-Kap Eżekuttiv ta’ Festivals Malta, Annabelle Stivala, tkellmet dwar il-kisbiet numerużi tal-aġenzija. Stivala enfasizzat ukoll li wara t-tnedija tal-istrateġija l-ġdida fl-2021, Festivals Malta beda l-ħidma tiegħu mill-ewwel fuq tliet għanijiet ewlenin, dawk tas-sostenibbiltà, l-iżvilupp tal-udjenza, u l-kollaborazzjoni.

“Dawn il-ħames snin ħaduna fuq vjaġġ straordinarju fejn stabbilixejna ruħna bħala l-esponent ewlieni tal-festivals lokali. Festivals Malta wera xi jsarraf u x’inhuma l-kapaċitajiet tiegħu. Illum għandna stampa ċara ħafna ta’ fejn nixtiequ nkunu fi żmien ħames snin, u diġà bdejna naħdmu biex nilħqu l-għanijiet li identifikajna fl-istrateġija tagħna. Fid-dawl tal-klima soċjoekonomika attwali, aħna nħossu li s-sostenibbiltà, l-iżvilupp tal-udjenza, u l-kollaborazzjoni huma l-oqsma ewlenin li għandna niffukaw fuqhom f’dan il-waqt,” qalet is-Sinjura Stivala.

Festivals Malta ħabbar ukoll il-kalendarju kulturali tiegħu għas-sena 2023, b’enfasi fuq iż-żieda ta’ festival ġdid f’Novembru, The Early Opera and Music Festival. Din id-deċiżjoni ġiet wara r-rispons pożittiv li Festivals Malta rċieva wara li introduċa dan il-ġeneru waqt The Three Palaces Festival ix-xahar li għadda. Fl-2023 Festivals Malta se jagħti bidu lill-kalendarju tiegħu bil-Valletta Baroque Festival f’Jannar, il-Karnival ta’ Malta fi Frar, Mużika Mużika f’Marzu, Ritmu u l-Malta International Arts Festival f’Ġunju, il-Malta Jazz Festival u d-Dance Festival Malta f’Lulju, Notte Bianca f’ Ottubru, u The Three Palaces Festival u The Early Opera and Music Festival f’Novembru. Apparti minn hekk hemm ukoll 5 avvenimenti nazzjonali li jaqgħu taħt ir-responsabbiltà ta’ din l-aġenzija u l-fond ta’ Rock ‘N Malta, li permezz tiegħu Festivals Malta jappoġġja l-komunità tar-rock f’Malta.

Festivals Malta Celebrates its 5-Year Anniversary and Launches the 2023 Calendar of Events.

Festivals Malta celebrates its fifth anniversary with a legacy that exceeds expectations. The agency, which is responsible for 11 festivals and 5 national events, organises over 260 events throughout the year. In 2019, Festivals Malta hived off from Arts Council Malta and became an independent government agency, diligently building its own identity. Throughout the years, Festivals Malta earned the respect of thousands of local and international artists and has become a household name for high-calibre festivals and events in Malta.

“Throughout the years, Festivals Malta earned the respect of thousands of local and international artists and has become a household name for high-calibre festivals and events in Malta. We will continue to invest in our culture; we will also continue to support the creative and cultural sectors where more artists are being given the opportunity to enhance their talents,” stated Minister Bonnici.

Festivals Malta Chairman Aaron Zahra stated “Celebrating the Past, Creating the Future is the theme we chose to commemorate our fifth anniversary. Five years that were not always plain sailing. The pandemic threw a lot of hurdles our way, and we could not do what we were set up for - we could not produce events for obvious reasons. However, we still felt the need to be of service to the people and our amazing team of hard-working people kept coming up with innovative ideas that kept us going. Today, we celebrate our past with great pride, and we look forward to the future that we will create together with keen optimism.”

The Festivals Malta Chief Executive Officer, Annabelle Stivala, spoke of the agency’s numerous achievements throughout the year. She also highlighted that following last year’s strategy launch, Festivals Malta is currently focusing on three main goals, namely sustainability, audience development, and collaboration.

“These five years have taken us on an extraordinary journey where we have established ourselves as market leaders. Festivals Malta has shown what it is made of and what the agency can achieve. We have a very clear picture of where we would like to be in five years’ time, and we have already started working on achieving the goals we set out in our strategy last year. In light of the current socio-economic climate, we feel that sustainability, audience development, and collaboration are our key areas of focus at the moment,” said Ms Stivala.

Festivals Malta also announced the calendar of events for 2023, highlighting the addition of a new festival in November, The Early Opera and Music Festival. This decision comes after a positive response was received when the genre was introduced during The Three Palaces Festival last month. In 2023 Festivals Malta will start off the year with the Valletta Baroque Festival in January, Carnival in February, Mużika Mużika in March, Ritmu and The Malta International Arts Festival in June, The Malta Jazz Festival and Dance Festival Malta in July, Notte Bianca in October, and The Three Palaces Festival and The Early Opera and Music Festival in November. Also under Festivals Malta’s remit are 5 national events and Rock ‘N Malta, a fund through which the agency supports the rock community in Malta.
