SYNOPSIS:
Gitgħana is a Maltese guitar trio that comprises a family of talented guitarists. The trio consists of Calċidon Vella, his son Mark, and daughter Denise. Their music is derived from traditional Maltese folk singing, għana, and guitar melodies called daqq tal-Prejjem.
Over the years, Gitgħana has expanded their style by incorporating rhythms influenced by flamenco. The name Gitgħana itself is a combination of two words, gitana in Spanish meaning "gypsy and "għana" in Maltese.
Gitgħana's music reflects their connection to their Maltese roots, with the tradition passed down from generation to generation. The trio's paternal grandfather and uncles played an important role in their musical upbringing, and the Vella family continues to preserve and promote their cultural heritage through their music.
