Hervé Koubi

Hervé Koubi started his studies in dance in Cannes, where he was born, with Michele and Anne-Marie Sanguin and Nathalie Crimi (co-founders of Espace 614 at Mouans-Sartoux). He pursued his development at the Centre International de Danse Rosella Hightower in Cannes, then with the Opéra de Marseille. Koubi grew up unaware of his Algerian heritage; learning about it at age 25 from his father on his deathbed which sent him on a personal and artistic journey. Les Nuits Barbares which will be performed at this year’s Malta international Arts Festival is made up of dancers primarily from North Africa with street dance backgrounds, Compagnie Hervé Koubi is the result of that journey. He has worked with various choreographers (Bruno Jacquin, Sosana Marcellino, Thierry Smits...) and he is the co-founder of Compagnie Hervé KOUBI.

Class Description

Teacher: Guillaume GABRIEL

Prepare the body, working on the alinement of the body to anchor the body in the ground and develop the peripheries. Guillaume Gabriel will lead the dancers through the vocabulary of the company Hervé Koubi and will focus on the subtle qualities of Hervé koubi’s work.
